hi starr - I hope by the time that you read this that cane has gotten his appetite back

: in addition to kerry's good advice, I just wanted to add that there are ways to stimulate his desire for eating w/ scent
that is, you can add a small amout of "over the counter" appetite stimulants or create your own..a little bit of home made (okay, homemade but leftover) stew gravy or the like worked wonders when my old guys were out of sorts
and a little cheer and cajoling can go a long way too!
I know you both are hurting so much from your loss but
it can get better
love and light and a million blessings to you both my friend!
(an aside... I spent the weekend dog sitting an old gal who very much missed her "people"; friday night she was a little despondent, not so interested in food, or me, walks or treats but by dinnertime tonight -three days later, she met me at the door with wiggles and a grin, rolled over on her back, dashed out for her walk, kissed me on the cheek, ate with gusto and was happy to just be
I guess what I'm trying to say is that we (dogs and people) learn and adapt, we grieve and we celebrate, we live and we learn to move forwrd despite the pain...I hope your wsweet cane does!)
