I thought about you at exactly 5 minutes after midnight on the new day of June 23, the day you were born. (I am writing this on June 23 although the post date says June 24). I bless that day and the day you came into my life. They say there are 3 days you will always remember regarding your pet: the day you found each other, the day you have to say goodbye, and the day you let go of your dearest friend, in your heart, and allow yourself to love again but, having the knowledge that you hold the love of your most cherished friend in your soul forever and, whenever you need her or him, all you have to do is call their name and they will be there, for they will always be a part of you very essence. When you allow yourself to feel the love in your soul, then you begin the healing and your friend will be free to move on but will always be watching for you, for when your time comes, your best and dearest friend will be the first to greet you and welcome you.
Lady, I have grown so much in the past few years. I am a completely different person now. I now understand why it is said that when you suffer a loss through death, be it animal or human, you must go through the griefing process, you must go through it in order to survive. In the time of survival, I went through many self struggles. I did not want to grief, so I tried to ignore it but it kept creeping back in and I was turning into a person I did not know. Before it was too late, I started volunteering and it saved my life. I think you put that thought in my head. I realized when I was traininig to be a Pet Grief Counselor that I had not gone through the process myself. I lost all of you one, right after the other, and the pain was more than I could bear.
Now, when I think of you and my other babies, I feel the love and warmth in my soul and it fills me up to the point where I want to burst. The love never dies. The love remains a part of you and your soul.
Animals are messengers of God. They are sent to us to remind us of our soul connection with God and each other. We are all one and the animals have never forgotten this.
I love you Lady Bug, more and more every day.
This poem is dedicated to you. With all my love, Mom
IN THEIR INNOCENCE AND WISDOM,
IN THEIR CONNECTION TO THE EARTH
AND ITS MOST ANCIENT RHYTHMS,
ANIMALS SHOW US A WAY BACK TO A HOME THEY HAVE NEVER LEFT.
