We just put our 15 yr old dog Buddy to sleep Friday night and I am really struggling. It was time, I know that, but I can't seem to stop crying. My husband and I stayed with him so I know it was peaceful and quite honestly, I believe he was ready. He has not had much of a quality of life in the last year. He loved to play fetch, he would chase sticks for hours, but lost the use of one leg last July due to a tumor. He adapted after a few weeks, but in the last couple of months has struggled just to stand. I know he is in a far better place now, and that my grief is my selfishness, but I can't seem to help it. I also know that only other pet owners would understand that grief, to many people he is just a dog.

So sorry for your loss of Buddy...I know the pain you are going through...in time it will be replaced by sweet memories and knowing you loved him with all your heart and that is what he took with him to Rainbow Bridge....

Hugs, Anastasia

Hi AnnetteM and welcome to the forum.
All of us here are so sorry to hear of the loss of your darling Buddy.
We know exactly how you feel and what you are going through.
We had to let our baby boy Jacko go at the ripe old age of 17.
For the first few days we kept asking ourselves if we done the right thing and could not stop crying.
We then found this wonderful forum and some very understanding people.
Buddy knew the time had come for you to let him go and he respects your decision.
Your Darling Buddy is at Rainbow Bridge where he is now pain free and running around playing until the day you meet again.
Our Baby was cremated and we have an oak casket with his ashes in.
We kiss it everyday and night.
When Jacko had passed we swore never to have another dog again because it is just to much of an emotional experience when we have to part.
Oh how wrong we was as some 4-5 years after losing Jacko Tilly came along out of the blue.
Tilly is fantastic she was a gift from a family member at 6 months old and is a staffordshire bull terrier.
God Bless you your family and Buddy.

Best wishes.
David + Lisa
