Three weeks ago,I went into the hospital for some outpatient sinus surgry. Things went wrong and I aspirated blood into my lungs. I was on a respirator for 7 days,in the ICU for a week and in the hospital 2 weeks. It was a horrible experience.
Al was nice enough, when I went into the rehab facility for some physical and speech therapy,to bring Goober and Bonnie to see me. Goober was terrified but Bonnie loved it so the next time he just bought Bonnie. She was so sweet and loving to all the patients as this was also nursing home. It was a terribly depressing place. Most people were very old and sick and could just sit in thieir wheel chairs and stare. I could walk with a walker and my speech came back quickly. Now,I don't even need the walker. But some of these people brightened right up. Those that could speak would slowly take out pictures of their own dogs they once had and carried their pics in their pockets.
One woman had not spoken in 6 months. She had had to give up her 2 chihuahua's and 2 Yorkies when she had to be moved into the nursing home where she will live for the rest of her life. But,when she sw Bonnie, she started talking to her and loving on her. I took her back to her room and let her visit for over an hour. The nursing home staff said the woman perked right up and stated eating and talking again.
When I finally got out of there after a week,I was just about mauled by Bonnie and Goober when I got home. Goober still wants me to carry him around and sleeps so close to me at night. I had missed them so much.
Animals have an amazing ability to help people. When I ost Boo and Mitzie,I swore I old never get another pet. But finally, after about 2 years,I was ready again. I believe rescued animals know they were saved and are so grateful. I am thankful to God for saving my life.

Oh MArian,

We are so happy you have come through this medical problem well.

YOu are right, animals do know how to help us just by their presence!

There are many carer centres in Ausrtalia where volunteers bring their pets to spend time with the residents/patience..

It does everyone a world of good!

The patients, the residents, the staff adn families all benifit from the pets visits!

Perhaps this is somerthing you might like to do in the future - I know I would love to do this sort of thing myseolf one day!

:)

please continue to get better and know that I will hold you in my thoughts and prayers,

Kerry
